How to choose an adult day care center

Adult day care (also written adult daycare) gives older adults and adults with disabilities a supervised place to spend the day, with meals, activities, and often health services, while family caregivers work or rest. Programs come in two models: social adult day care, and adult day health care, which adds nursing and therapy and is usually paid through Medicaid or a managed care plan.

Use this directory to shortlist centers near you, then call each one. The registry lists addresses, phone numbers, licenses, and Medicaid identifiers; it does not list hours, services, capacity, or cost.

What is the difference between adult day care and adult day health care?

Social adult day care focuses on supervision, meals, and activities. Adult day health care (the medical model) adds nursing, therapy, and medication oversight, is licensed separately in most states, and is usually paid through Medicaid or a managed care plan.

How do I find out if a center accepts Medicaid?

Listings marked "Medicaid ID on file" have a Medicaid provider identifier on the public CMS record. Confirm current enrollment, waiver eligibility, and any managed care plan requirements directly with the center.

Does adult day care cost less than home care or assisted living?

Usually. A day of adult day care typically costs less than a comparable shift of in-home care and far less than residential care, and participants keep living at home. Rates vary by state, program model, and payer; ask each center for its daily rate.

Where does this directory get its data?

From the CMS National Provider Identifier registry, filtered to the adult day care taxonomy (261QA0600X). We republish the public record as-is: legal name, practice location, phone, taxonomy, license, and identifiers. Centers can send updates for hours, services, and payers.

How do I add or correct a listing?

Every center page has an "Update this listing" link. Send hours, services, payers, and a website and we will add them at no charge. New centers appear when their NPI record carries the adult day care taxonomy.

Where does this directory come from?

Listings are compiled from the CMS National Provider Identifier registry for taxonomy 261QA0600X, Clinic/Center — Adult Day Care. Email and website appear only when the provider filed them as an NPI endpoint. Confirm hours, enrollment, and services directly with the center.
